Frida Kahlo Tribute Poster
I absolutely love Frida. She was awesome. Fierce. Powerful. Fearless.
So many times during my life have I felt as if my problems would consume me. But they didn’t. I look at Frida’s life and I see someone that went through so much. And yet, she lived. She lived her life and did a lot of the things she wanted for herself. She wasn’t content all of the time, but we don’t have to be content all of the time. That’s part of life.
So I have given the students the assignment of making a poster based on mythology. We went through the meaning of a myth and through different cultures’s mythologies. The meaning of a myth is “the story of a people”. While thinking about it, I decided to make my example poster about Frida. I chose one of her most famous pictures, and recreated it in Illustrator and Photoshop. I did the background in Photoshop and applied a filter so that it would look very stylized and modern. I then traced a picture of her face and created a vector out of it.
I am very happy with the end result. I would have never thought that I could have been able to do something like this by myself. I love the colors too, as they make me smile and make me think that even though there are dark parts in our life, we can pair them up with the bright and happy moments in there too.
