Movie Poster

Movie Poster

For this week we were to create a movie poster with a self-portrait, and we were allowed to use good quality pictures from the web. Being able to do this assignment showed me that theres a variety of things that can be done with photography and that we are not limited to just a few things. Another thing I realized is that recreating pictures is ridiculously hard as long as you want to get things exactly the same.

Here’s the poster I wanted to recreate, and my poster:

The process for this was extensive. I ended up getting rid of my first two tries and ended up with this. There’s still a few things that I’d like to change, but it felt almost impossible to get them right (even though I’ve been working on this for an entire week)! I started out by retouching my self-portrait. (I know my eyes are crazy here, but I didn’t really need them open for this.)

Once I was done with the retouching, I added color layers and changed their modes so that they would fit what I had in mind. I also added a texture to the picture to achieve the grainy feel. For the glasses, I used two pictures from the internet: one was from a scene in the actual Almost Famous movie (concert), and the glasses were taken from another website. To achieve the picture-inside-of-another-picture effect, I isolated the glasses with the pen tool, and then I selected the concert picture and pasted it into the glasses.

I sent my picture to Kelsea Morrison and Cameron MacDonald.
